Relax, Focus, Succeed by Karl Palachuk

My experience with clients ties directly in to Karl’s philosophy.  I find many clients have such a high volume (that’s quantity volume not sound volume) of chatter in their heads that focus alludes them.  They feel scattered and exhausted.  They always feel behind and defeated.
Mental clutter can appear as the overwhelming to do list or it can show up as the negative, self defeating messages that tell us we’re stupid, unworthy, lazy or wrong.

There are many ways to begin to tame the mental clutter; here are five to start you on your way:
1. Write things down – make a to do list, journal your feelings, there is HUGE power in getting your thoughts on paper.  They are less overwhelming.  Our brains have a sneaky way of making a small matter very dramatic if we let it swirl around long enough in our heads.
2. Sticky Note Technique – write positive messages on a sticky note on your bathroom mirror, over the kitchen sink or at your desk.  Repetitive positive messages eventually sink in.
3. Read Karl’s Book  (link to book)
4. Pay attention to your surroundings – Are you hanging around with negative people?  Think about the fact that your general disposition is a result of the five people you spend the most time with.
5. Call your energy back to the present – My very good friend Susan Rueppel of Energetic Wisdom suggests that when you realize you’re running on empty you can stop and quietly say, “I call my energy back to the present.”  Then breath.

It’s simple but not necessarily easy to retrain the mind, body and spirit away from current habits to new habits that better serve us to live the life we dream about.
