Post 4 of 10: Crafty Stuff

In part 4 of our 10 part series on the “Toughest Things to Toss” we’re talking about Craft Supplies…dun, dun, dunnnn. I spoke to about 100 quilters at a Quilters Guild Meeting several years ago and got an education on the power of the fabric swatch. Until that meeting I naively thought I would let these ladies know that they can just keep what they know they’ll use immediately and then organize accordingly. Well, when a woman in the back of the room stood up and shouted at me, “you just don’t understand” I realized, well yes she’s right, I don’t understand. There’s always something for this organizer to learn.

The creative mind of the crafty person sees value in almost everything they have collected for their potential projects. I think this is great. I think that if we all actually had the time we wanted to spend doing crafts we would have a lot less supplies and a lot more finished projects. So, I’m treading lightly on this topic but I will still encourage you to look within because that’s what I do.

Look at whether you are being realistic about your time when buying crafting supplies and materials, especially if space is limited for you. Be clear about the financial impact the purchase of supplies has on you and your family. Think about the working space and storage space you have for your projects.
The best you can do is group like with like so you know what you have and how much you have…this keeps you from overbuying. Today most craft suppliers have containers specific to the project. You can also think outside the box and get creative with what you use.
