Case Study
A real estate agent called me after I did a presentation in her office. She has attempted many times to get a filing system for her home office that would work for her. We discussed her concerns and scheduled a time.
We discussed filing standards and I recognized immediately that the old alphabetical system would not suit her so I began to draw from her how she felt about the items to be filed.
We decided that labeling a folder bills was completely boring to her and that the truth was it was a better fit to label it “easy come, easy go” so we did. We continued on with data entry items in the “Bigger database, Bigger paycheck" file, thank you notes to be written go in the “Attitude of Gratitude” file and “talk to people” for those marketing calls that need to be made.
We created a system that reflected exactly how she viewed what was happening. We did not try to force the usual systems, they haven’t worked for my client in the past.
Who says your office, right down to the filing system, cannot reflect exactly who you are.
